Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy takes place on Sunday Mornings at the 9:00 am Mass at Holy Spirit and the 10:30 am Mass at St. Edward’s throughout the school year.
In Children’s Liturgy, we look at the Gospel for Sunday at a level and pace suitable for children of all ages. By following the seasons of the Church and understanding the signs and symbols of the Mass the children discover how the Word of God has meaning in their daily lives.
Following on from reading the Gospel there are a variety of activities including; discussion, drama and artwork. Each session ends with a prayer before we re-join our families to celebrate the Eucharist.

Faith In Action

Faith In Action is for those in Year 6 and above. We meet throughout the year on a Sunday after the 10:30 Mass at St. Edward’s. As the title suggests we put our faith into action, this might be by raising money for a charity, helping a parishioner, working in the parish garden or leading a Liturgy for the Parish. As well as helping others we deepen and come to understand our own faith more plus go on some fun trips too!  Check the ‘Events’ page for upcoming dates.

A.C.T.S. Adult Catholics Together Spiritually
ACTS is a diocese-wide initiative set up after a conversation at Lourdes when it was recognised that there was nothing set up to continue to encourage and develop the faith of the young adults of the diocese.
ACTS holds two days of reflection per year in various locations and also a weekend retreat in October. Each day or weekend is unique and led by a variety of people and look at a range of subjects, from focussing upon a particular Gospel or document to different styles of prayer. Also throughout the year, there are various fundraising events.
Keep checking the newsletter for details of the next events.

Confirmation

Children in Year 9 and above are prepared for Confirmation through a series of meetings involving different types of prayer, artwork, pilgrim walks and various activities.

School – Parish Links

The role of the School – Parish Link person is to keep the schools as involved as possible with the Parish Community, encouraging them to attend Masses and various events throughout the year.

Uniformed Groups

The church hall of St Edwards church is home to the 6th Runcorn Scout group and the 7th Runcorn Guides and Brownies.

The 6th Runcorn scouts include a Beavers, Cubs and Scout group which meet weekly to enable young people aged between six and eight to join in with Beavers and those who are eight to ten to join the cub scouts. These gatherings give an opportunity to enjoy all the activities the scout movement provide under safe and supervised conditions.

The 7th Runcorn Brownies and Guides meet each Tuesday, Brownies aged between seven and ten and Guides ten plus. We meet regularly to enjoy the ethos of the guide/brownie movement which encourages learning through fun activities, relationship building as well as learning through the ability to work as an individual and as part of a team, all undertaken in a safe environment.
