Ragheed Fundraising
A social and fundraising group has existed in the Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe for many generations of people. In March 2008 we changed the name to the Ragheed Group, the purpose of this group is to embrace all the different races and the cultures of those who live in our own and the surrounding Parishes so that we could learn about their traditions and share ours with them.
We meet bi-monthly and arrange events including film nights, St. Patrick’s night, the annual craft fair and continental cuisine nights.
All details of upcoming events are advertised in the newsletter and on the website so please come along and join us!
Justice & Peace
The aim of this group is to raise awareness of poverty and social injustice in accordance with gospel values.
Methods used to accomplish this are:-
- Petition councillors, MPs and MEPs on cancellation of debt, global warming, terminator seeds etc
- Raise awareness of Fair Trade and the plight of persecuted people
- Giving support to CAFOD, Shrewsbury & Liverpool Justice & Peace commisions, KIVA and Water Aid
- Praying for a fairer world
Catholic Children’s Society
Provides practical support to the underprivileged families of Runcorn.
You can support this group by:
- By attending their fundraising activities.

- By making monetary donations e.g. by contributing to the donations box which you will find by the crib at Christmas.

Foodbank
Along with Churches from across the town, we help to support The Foodbank. Donated items are collected at both of our Church buildings. Volunteers take the boxes to the warehouse once every two weeks and are also encouraged to help at the warehouse and distribution points. Please check the newsletter for updates on how to support the Foodbank.
CAFOD: The Catholic Association for Overseas Development
CAFOD is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD works for a safe, sustainable and peaceful world.
Across the world CAFOD brings hope and compassion to poor communities, standing side by side with them: to end poverty and injustice, working with people of all faiths and none.
Through regular contributions to CAFOD our parish supports poverty-stricken families across the world: you can help either by making donations or working as a volunteer to raise awareness of the projects that CAFOD is involved with.
Churches Together Runcorn & Christian Aid
Our parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe is a member of Churches Together in Runcorn, which seeks to find ways in which all the Churches, of whatever denomination, can work together for the good of our town. Three representatives, comprising of our Parish Priest plus one layperson from each Church are invited to attend the three-monthly meetings and work on combined services and activities. We support Christian Aid by taking part in the annual door-to-door collection and supporting events arranged by the towns’ Christian Aid committee.
Ladies Group
Open to all ladies of the Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe and surrounding parishes, the Ladies Group meet socially on a fortnightly basis in St. Edward’s Parish Room, Ivy St. on Wednesday evenings. We give each other mutual support and organise a range of social activities e.g. guest speakers, theatre trips, quizzes, walks etc.
We are also active in the Parish organising fundraising events and catering for Parish celebrations.
